FEAR OF EPIDEMIC SPREADING TO USA!
Epidemic in Mexico claims thousands of lives.
Mexican Flu Coming to USA?
Scientists Claims Success in Finding a Vacsine
Washington D.C.: The U.S. department of Healthcare warns the public against a new disease that is similar to the Spanish Flu, but this version of the illness is much more aggressive than previously encountered. Mexico is paralyzed by this epidemic, that has in the last two months claimed more than 12,000 human lives all over Mexico, and shows no sign in slowing down. American medicinal scientists has taken tests from the epidemic and has worked days and nights to create a vacsine, as the dept. of Healthcare fears this epidemic will spread to our beloved nation at any minute.
In order to fight the epidemic, it is vital that all U.S. citizens visit their nearest schoolhouse or hospital in order to be vacsined. Our noble and giving president has declared that this vacsine will be free of charge for all true citizens of USA, even negros and other minorities if they can legally produce correct identification and healthcare assurance. All education below college will be closed down for two weeks as the schoolhouses will be used as public centres for vacsine and information about the epidemic. The vacsination program starts tomorrow morning 7:00 A.M., and all citizens are adviced to act in a controlled manner as queues will arise.
After these two weeks expire, vacsination will be given at hospitals and emergency rooms nationwide, and also applied to children soon as possible after their birth. For persons unable to provide evidence of U.S. citizenship, the vacsine will cost 10 dollars.
"Expanded border-patrols and more strict custom regulations will try to keep this epidemic out of the U.S. as long as possible, but it is naïve to believe that this will be enough in the long run. When you see the scope of the epidemic down in Mexico and how the country suffers from it on all levels, it is our duty to hinder this threat to cripple our nation and also help our neighbors in the south with our scientific and medicinal superiority" said Dr. Hébert, employed at Tulane University Hospital. Dr. Hébert will serve as the main coordinator of medical events for this epidemic in the state of Louisiana. "We are aware that this seem quite sudden, but there is no time to waste when we can save lives. As soon as we had positive results with this vacsine, we contacted newspapers and radio stations nationwide with this message. I hope we are not to late".
(Long list of schools, hospitals, adresses and phone numbers to all locations providing the vacsine).
Lady Wonder
"Mind-Reading" Mare Baffles Scientists
Where is this mare? Is there a secret about it? Of course not. She is the property of Mrs. C. D. Fonda who lives at Stop 10, Petersburg turnpike. Mrs. Fonda was the trainer. She raised the animal on a bottle. "Lady" has never been with other horses. So far as she knows--unless she indulges independently in telepathy--she is a chicken or man or antelope. And here is a mare, 3-years-old, black, with four white feet and three white stockings, the granddaughter of a thoroughbred race horse, which stands indolently in a barnyard and spells the maiden name of Dr. Machlachlan's wife when none in the audience save Dr. and Mrs. Machlachlan knows it!
It is just an ordinary looking mare. One would never select her as particularly intelligent, though Mrs. Fonda might take issue with that assertion. Mrs. Fonda had trained some Shetland ponies to do some simple tricks. She loved horses. She says "Lady was a very young colt."
"I want that colt," she told her husband. "I believe I can educate her. I believe that mare has sense."
A spectator took a coin from his pocket. None saw the face of it but he. What was the date on it? The mare nosed over the blocks, "1-9-1-4." Correct.
A visitor holds a pocket knife in his hand. He inquires: "What have I here?" And the mare spells out "K-n-i-f-e."
"What is the name of this boy at my side?" is the question. And the mare replies: "Leroy."
Dr. Maclachlan has been studying psychic phenomena for ten years.
"Now, I am no spiritist, mind you," he suggested, "I am merely interested from a scientific point of view. It seems to me that the mare has super-normal powers. It appears that there may be a subconscious connection between the mind of man and the mind of an animal." In short, it may be that thought actually can be transferred not only from human mind to human mind without other means than pure mental activity, but also from human mind to animal mind. Dr. Gayle reminded this writer that some years ago there were several animals in Germany, called the Elberfeldt horses, which could accomplish feats of --apparently--mind reading. They were all killed in the war. "Lady" is believed to be the only mare of her kind in the world. Horses long have been reputed to be the smartest of animals, with dogs and elephants as close contenders. They are supposed to have originated in the East, and are first heard of in Egypt. They were not native to the hemisphere, it is understood, for the Indians, seeing a man on horseback, thought the two to be one animal--a sort of centaur.
One Richmonder who has given some thought to the phenomena stated today that "Lady" was the heroine of her kind. In the day when horses have lost caste, due to the popularity of the automobile, a mare performs such feats as to make scientists wrinkle their brows in despair.
"Imagine a flivver telling you the square root of 81!" he exclaimed whimsically.
C & O Railroad Tunnel Collapse in Richmond, VA
Huge yawning cracks, opening with fearful rapidity, over the entire section of Jefferson Park Hill where the big steam shovel had been cutting away tons of earth in the effort to reach the engineer and negro workman who were caught underneath the cave-in of the Chesapeake and Ohio tunnel, off Nineteenth Street, late Friday afternoon caused the officials in charge of the rescue work to abandon that steam shovel at 3:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
Many of the gaping openings in the side of the hill measured many feet in width and went to a distance of thirty feet or more, so numerous were the openings that the hillside near the scene of the tragedy resembled a giant cake that had been broken into bits by a family of hungry urchins.
